Leveraging 20+ years of existing content through design.
IMG SRC reengineered the fan experience with a fast-loading and intuitive site for rock band Bump of Chicken. A clean, neutral design serves as the perfect backdrop for decades of materials and ensures fans can access the site at all times.
Japanese rock band Bump of Chicken has enjoyed a loyal following for more than 20 years. Fans would rush to access newly released content, and the band’s website periodically buckled under the strain. IMG SRC was hired to provide a stable and quick-loading redesign.
They interviewed core fans to find out how they wanted to interact with the site. Fans wanted to keep current, but also enjoyed delving into the archives. A complete redesign to improve intuitive access to the band’s treasure trove of classic photos and videos was needed.
To ease pressure on the site and reduce loading times, photos were optimized and put on a separate server. A neutral look also ensured that these past works—reflecting the band’s ever-evolving visual style—would not clash aesthetically. IMG SRC strove to make the entire experience meaningful for fans, and even the 404 page shows a panoramic arena shot. Fans noticed the site’s attention to even small details and responded enthusiastically on social media.
